Design process for DRAKA Amsterdam begins

The design process for DRAKA in Amsterdam-Noord’s Hamerkwartier has begun. During a joint kick-off on September 21st 2026, the design team gathered at the former industrial site for a first visit to the site and its existing buildings.

Neutelings Riedijk Architects is working on the transformation of one of the existing buildings on the DRAKA site. The site visit therefore also marked the starting point of the design process: a first close look at the existing structure, its spatial qualities and its potential for reuse and transformation.

The former DRAKA site is being developed by AM Gebiedsontwikkeling and Amvest into a mixed urban district with approximately 1,500 homes and 30,000 m² of workspaces and amenities. Arons en Gelauff architecten and FABRICations are developing the urban and architectural framework.

Together with Studio Nauta, Atelier Kempe Thill, MONADNOCK, VLOT architecten and ATTRA, Neutelings Riedijk now moves into the next phase: from existing site and structure to design.

The transformation starts with what is already there. Over the coming months, we will share how the existing structure becomes the starting point for a new chapter at DRAKA. Stay tuned.
