Prix ‘Règles d’Or de l’Urbanisme’ 2024 for Gare Maritime
Gare Maritime, located on the Tour & Taxis site in Brussels, has won the Prix ‘Règles d’Or de l’Urbanisme’ (Golden Rules of Urbanism) awarded by the Fédération bruxelloise de l’Urbanisme (FBU). This award highlights projects contributing to “a livable city” and “a resilient city.”
On May 30 2024, Gare Maritime was honored in the productive, commercial, hotel, or administrative category for its transformation of a historic train hall into a vibrant commercial and administrative center. The project blends industrial heritage with sustainable architecture, featuring green roofs, water collection systems, and energy-efficient technologies.
Gare Maritime offers 45,000 m² of office, retail, and restaurant space within the 100,000 m² former freight railway station. It includes a food court and hosts events ranging from lectures to sports tournaments, boosting economic activity and social interaction. This multifunctional space connects to surrounding neighborhoods, enhancing Brussels’ urban landscape.
Gare Maritime is a leading example of transforming historic sites into modern hubs, making it a deserving winner of the Prix ‘Règles d’Or de l’Urbanisme’.
