Abe Bonnemaprijs 2017

The City Hall Deventer has been awarded the 2017 Abe Bonnema Award for Architecture. The jury praised the City Hall for its exceptionally high architectonic quality, and called it an example for Dutch architecture that will inspire future generations. The jury especially valued the artwork by artist Loes ten Anscher, which integrates 2.264 fingerprints of Deventer citizens in the façade.

The City Hall Deventer was one of the four shortlisted projects for the 2017 Abe Bonnema Award and was chosen out of more than 50 entries. The bi-annual award is presented by the ir. Abe Bonnema Foundation to highlight exceptional projects that set a new standard for architecture in the Netherlands.

Since the official opening in April 2016, the City Hall has been well received by the public and has been nominated for multiple other awards. The project consists of a total of 24.000 m2, of which 20.000 m2 is newly built and 4.000 m2 is renovation of the historic buildings. The City Hall has brought new life to this formerly abandoned part of the city thanks to its visitors and users, and it has also become one of the most sustainable government buildings in The Netherlands.
